Decorating With Flowers
Recently I filled a client's home with fresh flowers before their house guests arrived. It looked beautiful. So fresh and pretty like summer was everywhere. It reminded me to do this in our home, with or without special guests. It's such a simple way to brighten a space and right now roses and gardenias are in full bloom-bring them in!!

The Perfect Lamps
Why are they always so hard to find? A great pair is a true treasure, at least in my world. Not only do they supply soft illumination but they can be statement pieces and really complete a room. I posted these Curry & Co. "Sunbeam" lamps a while back and here they are in action (sorry for the blurry phone picture). And below are a pair of Barbara Cosgrove lamps that I also love. Great looking and definitely a statement!

Good Advice and a Dirty Job
I found a great article recently by Jancee Dunn in Real Simple entitled, "The Ten Things My Father Was Right About." A great short read, if you have a moment. I love her humor and the way she writes but one piece of advice struck me as an important reminder...to thank the people who do your dirty work.
We have an excellent sanitation crew in our town. They arrive each week and take care of our trash and recycle and always leave things nice and tidy. So, I decided to tackle cleaning out our outdoor garage cans today. Not so pleasant...right up there with cleaning out the fish tank. But it makes a difference and hopefully makes their job easier.
I try to do it after they've come so the cans are empty. Then I pour a lot of strong disinfectant, like Lysol, inside and fill it with water from the hose then dump it in the street and let the sun dry them out. Not so bad...And I love how she reminds us to say hello and show our appreciation. Last Christmas I left a bag of goodies for our sanitation crew and Janie and I watched out of the window as they found them on an early December morning. They jumped back in their truck, high-fived and honked their horn. Made my day. It's so easy to stop people who work hard for us and just say thank you. I'm glad for that reminder.

Home Office Inspiration
Our home office can become a catch-all room if I don't stay on top of it so I love inspiring images and blogs like this one. They help keep me in order!
And See Jane Work is always full of great organizing items and ideas, love this site.
And they have a blog! Check out this post, an office organization check list.

Garage Makeover!!
One of our goals this summer is to completely clean out and organize the garage...it's a great space it just needs a little help! I've been putting it off (I can't imagine why in this oppressive heat) but I was re-inspired when browsing through June's Real Simple. Three garage makeover stories were enough to remind me of my final summer project and get the ball rolling.
I really like the idea of a nice work surface and this stainless steel table in the photo above looks perfect. It's almost $200 from Target but here's a cheaper one from a restaurant supply company. These tables are also neat in large kitchens for added work space.
I also love the garage floor mat in this photo from Stacks and Stacks. Or I might paint the floor with a concrete stain-that will clean it up dramatically (just like the basement!)
And some wall storage units are a must! These Antonious shelves from IKEA might do the trick. Then we just need some heavy duty hooks for all of the yard equipment and tools and shewww...a cool day or two!

Favorite Local Shop!
I had to do a post about one of my favorite shops in the area, One Eleven Main. I went in there today and was blown away with the neat things they have to offer...everything from baby gifts, husband gifts, tabletop, wedding and some precious Lilly Pulitzer clothing upstairs. It's the perfect place to find a gift for someone (or yourself)! And I need to go more often. Everyone who works there is so nice and helpful, too. It's a great shopping experience! And this Saturday, the grand opening of the South Street Market Warehouse is sure to be a fun event with live music, free food and activities and a great opportunity to explore all of the businesses in thriving downtown Aberdeen.
Here are just a few of the treasures I spotted at One Eleven Main today:
Original pieces by local artist Fay Terry. Her work is amazing and I can't wait to find the perfect spot for one!
Can't go wrong with Lilly!
And I love these little mini sewing kits from two's company. Everything you need to mend a button or sew a patch in a neat and compact little kit. And only $9!

Lunch Ideas
Trying to come up with healthy lunch ideas or really anything other than PB&J can be challenging. Here are some fun ideas!
French Onion Dip with Veggies and Whole Wheat Crackers (*Image and recipe via GOOP)
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1 small yellow onion, peeled and thinly sliced
1/4 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons Veganaise or your favorite mayonnaise
big pinch coarse salt
freshly ground black pepper
2 teaspoons finely minced chive
Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat in a small skillet. Add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally for 4 or 5 minutes to get them going. Turn the heat to low and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring here and there, or until totally collapsed and sweet and a fraction of their original size. Remove the onions from the heat and let them cool. Mix them together with the remaining ingredients and get dipping.
Whipped Chic Pea Hummus with Brushetta or Whole Wheat Bread
(*Image and recipe, here, via 101 Cookbooks)
Turkey Wrap Bites (*Image and recipe via GOOP)
For each sandwich:
1 large whole wheat flour tortilla
2 tablespoons cream cheese
2 or 3 slices roasted turkey
a few thin slices of red onion
Lay the tortilla on your work surface and spread evenly with the cream cheese. Shingle the turkey slices and scatter over the onion. Roll tightly and cut into small rounds.
And one of my favorites is a blueberry and peach smoothie, with half of a PB&J, of course.
1 Cup of fresh or frozen blueberries
1 Cup of fresh or frozen peaches
2 Cups of Almond Milk
A dash of agave nectar or honey
